Tobago Carnival celebrations are highly influenced by many of the traditions in the island. The celebrations include steel pan, masqueraders and calypso, which are much similar to the celebrations in Trinidad. In addition, Speech bands, whip welding devils called jab jabs, African drumming and bottle and spoon bands add to the charm of carnival in Tobago. The Carnival celebration begins on Monday with J’ouvert. The revelers cover in mud, paint and chocolates parade in the streets. Men dressed as women and participants in bright color costumes dance in the streets.

Women revelers in stunning feather and sequins costumes take part in the carnival events. The masquerader bands increase the flavor of festive mood. Midnight robber, Pierrot Grenade is some of the popular characters depicted by the participants in the carnival. The carnival celebrations start from Monday morning to late night on Tuesday. Carnival bands are organized as groups and each group participate in dance and music. The sounds of Soca band and steel band fill the air. Each group showcases their talents and the winning group is awarded as Masqueraders of the year. The unique feature of the carnival is that tourists take active part in the parades.

Musical competitions are held during the time of carnival in Tobago and the winners are awarded cash prize, car and prestigious titles. Calypso competitions are also conducted and the participants compete to win the title Tobago panorama Champions.
